Businessman sentenced for using clients' money to buy collectables

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Friday was sentencing day for a Lexington businessman who admitted using his clients' money to buy sports collector cards.

The U.S. Attorney's office says 46-year-old David Byron received more than three years in prison.

Byron pleaded guilty to federal charges of wire fraud and trying to evade paying income taxes.

Investigators say from 2006 until April 2010, Byron wired money from his clients' bank accounts to his account, then used the money to buy $350,000 worth of collector cards, among other items.

The judge also ordered Byron to pay $688,530 in restitution to the victims of his crime.

Byron had a bookkeeping business.
