She had been a beloved member of the family for years.
But now, a Frankfort mother and daughter are mourning the loss of their beloved pet.
Frankfort Police say a burglar killed the dog Monday morning, after breaking into a home on Hickory Drive.
The home's owner, Sandra Ferrell, returned home for lunch Monday afternoon, only to see the dog shot to death in the kitchen.
Police say the burglar only stole a 4-year-old Dell computer from Ferrell's home.
The incident has those who live near Ferrell's home upset. Some told 27 NEWSFIRST that Ferrell's home has been targeted by criminals before.
Ferrell says the hardest part of this is having to tell her 15-year-old daughter about the dog's death.
Franklin County Animal Control officers say this is the first time they've responded to a dog being killed during a burglary.
So far, no arrests have been made.
