Community Pitches In To Help Open Food Bank, Hit By Thieves

It was a crime that surprised many. Who would steal from a place that serves the poor?

But that was the case for Lexington's God's Pantry not once, but three times last week.

Crooks stole everything from frozen and canned food to an air conditioning unit at a storage facility on Traveller Road.

Since those thefts, the community has pitched in to help. Local businesses have donated everything from money to canned goods to a new air conditioning unit.

Now, all God's Pantry needs to re-open the Traveller Road center is more food products. If you'd like to help, you can drop off non-perishable food items in the blue barrels at central Kentucky Kroger stores.

If everything goes as planned, the food back should be back open on Thursday.
