Laurel County man charged with DUI while driving tractor

LONDON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police were called when a man walked into Ron's Country Market with slurred speech and odd behavior.

"He was slumped over (a table) and he left and had got on a tractor headed down the road,” said Gilbert Acciardo with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.

Those at Campground School say the man was driving the tractor erratically up and down the road, as if he didn't know where he was going. All the while, dozens of children were playing nearby.

Police were called and the tractor was pulled over. Kyle Robinson, 27, was arrested. They say pills were found with him, but on the way to jail, the deputy saw him try to get rid of some more.

“The deputy noticed the person throw something out the window. He immediately stopped and noticed it was a pill bottle with a large quantity of Xanax pills,” said Acciardo.

County officials confirm that Robinson was a county road employee. Workers are required to take random drug tests.

County Judge David Westerfield says the incident is still under investigation and isn't sure how Robinson passed the drug test. Police say the incident could have easily turned tragic.

“He had the bush hog attachment as well. Makes the situation a very dangerous situation,” said Acciardo.

Robinson remains in jail charged with DUI and several drug related offenses.
