Lexington Doctor's Medical License Suspended

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A state medical board has suspended the license of Lexington gynecologist Hamid Sheikh.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reported an investigator with the attorney general's office said she found expired medications and unsanitary conditions at Sheikh's office, along with missing or faulty equipment.

The newspaper could not reach Sheikh on Wednesday for comment, but medical board documents say Sheikh told investigators that his medical and billing practices are sound.

Sheikh faces state charges that accuse him of billing Medicaid since 2004 for abortions that he falsely reported as fetal ultrasounds and double-billing for the procedures, accepting payments from his patients as well.

Sheikh denied the charges at the time, saying they were motivated by anti-abortion politics.
