If you're hoping to become the next American Idol, you wont have to travel very far to try out. Auditions are coming to Kentucky.

Singers will have two different chances to impress the judges. Both audition sessions will be held in Louisville.

The first will be July 18-21 at Freedom Hall.

If you can't make that audition, you'll have another chance. They're also hosting auditions September 4-8 at Churchill Downs.

Thousands are expected to show up.

I think it is great for Kentucky!!! We can now show others what it is to be singers! I know of 2 young men that can sing and play guitars plus write songs. And they have sung and played these songs in front of lots of strangers and people love'em. They are going if I can help it! So those of you that believe in Prayer say one for them. Thanks

I have just moved here from philadelphia to be with my boyfriend in late april so I hope going to the auditions this year in KY will be far better than in Philadelphia. Everyone thinks they can sing in FITHADELPHIA.... don't worry I may not be a southern bell just yet but I surely represent KY proudly when I tryout...and YES I ca sing..have been for years... The auditions are not what you think... they pick randomly all the time it has nothing to do with talent which sux! iF IT DID..IT WOULD BE ALOT HARDER TO VOTE PEOPLE OFF.. dont you think? Last year the first round of judges got boo'd at ALOT for turning down good people. So wish me luck! I'm going to be singing a great song ...i dont think many people will be singing it so thats good...and I dont sing country so ill stick out like a sore thumb lol....goodluck to anyone else who's trying out! And don't be dissapointed if they turn you down...as I said Its RANDOM! they only have so many papers to give out at a time.

Would be good to know guidelines for contestants. I have been told there are age limits.

There are many talented people in Kentucky, my boyfriend for one, he is a very good singer and guitar player and can sound like Elvis if he choses, Don Williams, Conway Twitty, Vern Gosdin. Going to talk him into trying out for AI and he has my vote!! Please, Donny, do it for Kentucky, show the world Kentuckians are not what people say they are. Many singers have come out of Kentucky and made it to the big times. Show 'em how, Kentucky, you have the talent!!

PEOPLE STAY PROFESSIONAL, GIVE US KENTUCKIANS A GOOD NAME. LIKE OTHER COMMENTS ON HERE. I AGREE WITH. IF YOU CAN SING GO FOR IT, IF YOUR JUST A BLOOMING IDIOT STAY HOME. PEOPLE DONT WANT TO SEE SOMEONE FROM KENTUCKY ACTING STUPID. WE ALREADY HAVE A BAD NAME IN PUBLICS EYES AS BEING REDNECKS WHO ARE UNEDUCATED AND INCEST. GO MAKE KENTUCKY PROUD.....SHOW THEM DIFFERENT........GOOD LUCK...

I for one love to watch AI. I agree with several comments below. Don't go make a fool of yourself or your fellow Kentuckians. We are targeted as in-bred,bare-foot,toothless and every other disgusting thing known. I hope someone from Ky auditions and knocks their socks off. It would be so nice to see them win the entire thing. Then let the LA Times come down in the hills for an interview!:)They'd break out the banjos and canoes.Just kiddin'.

I'm really excited about all this! I'm going to try my best to make it to the auditions. I do agree with Steve though. I had no clue Montgomery Gentry was from Kentucky. Hmm. Anyway, I wish anyone luck who decides to try out. I know I do!

Warcreek: Are you serious? Diversity is not another word for Affirmative Action. Do you even know what either of the words mean? Look the words up before you start spewing your Klan like propaganda.

I think American Idol is very entertaining.

So what if someone makes fun of us.The auditions are the reason most people start watching the show because they are funny but then along the way you see someone thats good and say to yourself "hey I bet they make the top 12" so you keep watching to see if your right.Folks be RED and be PROUD in this politically correct world.Follow 2 old Ky. boys advice...Montgomery Gentry.....when they sing"Some people care what other people think;worry bout what they say.Let a little gossip comming from a lose lip ruin their perfect day..................I don't care what others think;what do you think about that?Remember DIVERSITY is just another word for AFIRMATIVE ACTION.Don't embrace it.Fight it.BE PROUD.

UGH!!! American Idol is overrated!

Posted by: Michael Location: Lex on Jun 27, 2008 at 06:46 AM
I agree with Steve. All this will do is prove the LA Times article was correct. I can just see it; a husband and wife team will audition and will be asked where they met. Their answer..."at home." "we were brother and sister at one time, but we jest loooooooved each other so much, weeze got married." hehehehehehe!

I would rather listen to Yoko Ona sing while watching The Lifetime channel after being hit in the twins.

i think that its good that we finally get a chance at american idol 2... i of course wont be there but at least the people who can sing will get their chance!

Posted by: TINA Location: MCDOWELL on Jun 26, 2008 at 11:45 PM
YEAH FOR AMERICAN IDOL.. ITS ABOUT TIME FOR THEM TO SEE WHAT WE ARE LIKE.. HEY DONT FORGET THEY DID HELP ONE OF THE SCHOOLS FROM KY... YOU WILL ONLY GET LAUGHED AT IF YOU GO OUT THERE AND SHOW THE HICK THATS IN YOU..

Posted by: have faith on Jun 26, 2008 at 11:04 PM
Come on you guys have faith in your fellow kentuckians(lol) You never know the winner next season could be right here in Kentucky. Of course they will make fun of our accents but they can't be any more embarassing than what they have shown in the past. I am glad they are coming to Kentucky you always hear about them in Atlanta or New York or some other big State. I think we will surprise them.

Posted by: Dexi Location: Lexington on Jun 26, 2008 at 09:27 PM
That show is just awful. Knocks me out asleep, alot like, I don't know, maybe anesthesia or something. BORING!

Posted by: Abby Location: Clay City on Jun 26, 2008 at 06:10 PM
Well, this should be very interesting!!I just can't wait to see how Kentucky is represented. I'm sure after the audition process we will make national headlines, AGAIN! I can't wait to see some of the people who will come out thinking they can sing. P-L-E-A-S-E people, like Steve says, before you go on tv and make a fool of yourself and us, sing in front of a total stranger if they make faces, please don't audition. One other thing to remember, most of us sound better in the shower than we would in public. If you are one of these people, like myself, then please stay home and wait for the show to air.

Posted by: Steve Location: Lexington on Jun 26, 2008 at 05:04 PM
Oh great! Now America will have another reason to laugh at Kentuckians. The producers will pick some hicks who can't sing (but of course think they are great) and pass them onto Simon and crew to make fun of and put it on the selection rounds for all of the country to laugh at. PLEASE PLEASE, before you try-out, go and sing to someone you don't know, and if they have a scowl on their face, then DON'T GO!
