Georgetown Community Hospital says that Venguswamy, known as Dr. Vengu, was an extraordinary surgeon who served at the hospital for 27 years.
"He was always the surgeon I called when things were tough," said Dr. Raymond Wechman, who worked with Georgetown Community Hospital with Dr. Vengu. "He was just a nice guy."

"I'm sure it's shocking news to everybody," Ali Shah said. "He was a very down to earth person, both the husband and wife. I never saw him as a physician, he was more of a dear friend. But I'm sure the community is going to miss him and his wife both because they've been here for over 20 years."
Shah also said Dr. Vengu had been a pilot for a few years. The plane they were flying was a Cirrus SR-22. Officials at Georgetown-Scott County Regional Airport say Dr. Vengu had his pilot license for at least six years.
