A Montgomery County man barricaded himself in a home after police say he kidnapped his 14-month-old child, and then crashed his car with the child inside.

It took more than seven hours of negotiations, but finally just before 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Robin Maple gave up and came out without a fight.

"I just can't understand what he was thinking," said Melissa Patrick the boys mother.

"And then to think he wrecked his car, with my son inside and just left him there," Patrick told 27 NEWSFIRST.

She says her son, Billy Wyatt Maple suffered serious injuries as a result of the wreck which left the boy trapped inside the vehicle.

"He suffered a hip fracture and neck injury which left my son in a neck brace," said Patrick.

Police say Maple took his son from the babysitters Wednesday morning without permission. Whep police attempted to pull Maple over that's when they say he led them on a high speed chase.

Robin Maple has been taken to a psychiatric facility in Lagrange where he is facing multiple charges, including kidnapping.

Police say Robin Maple also kidnapped his son back in December sparking an amber alert.

there is no mention of an EPO. If he had done this before why didn't the mother have a EPO on him.It sounds to me she was negligent also.First time it happen shame on the dad the second time shame on the mom.She should have started a new life somewhere else where he could never have the chance to do this a second time.What will happen now a psych evaluation and a slap on the wrist and the next time he will finish what he has started and the mom and child might be in danger.My advice to you mom, get away from there and start over.It sounds to me this might be a wise choice.Just something to think about...

Me and my boyfriend where the first to arrive at the wreck, since it was to the left of our home in a field. This baby was saved by God, because when the jeep landed on him he ended up in a little dip that was in the ground. So a combination of the dip in the ground, the crease in the top of the jeep, the baby was trapped in a bubble. When we showed up right after the wreck I did everything I could do to help the baby, I just felt so helpless. I just thank the lord above that he was with that little angel that night. i feel sorry for the little boy. he didn't ask for that why don't his father grow up instead of acting childish and hurting this innocent child.

I feel so sorry for this baby. He shouldn't have to be going through with this. This man needs to stay away from this baby forever. He is no father. This poor baby would be better off without a dad instead of with this loser!!!!

he was not concern about his family. if he was he would have been there for his child after he wrecked the vehicle with his baby in it. instead of leaving the child there.

Since I am moving to Kentucky at the end of the year, how could the system let this man be on the streets? He did the same thing in December, and is able to take the child again 6 months later. Sounds like this father needs to be "put-away" for a long time!

If he was "concerned about his family and his son that was injured" as was stated in the article, why the hell did he leave his son in the car after he crashed it? Oh yeah, he got caught now he's distraught and upset and worried about the boy he abandoned....BS!
