The NTSB has released a preliminary report into a crash that killed a Kentucky man.

54-year-old Dan Hutson of Murray died on June 18th when his small plane crashed and burned at the Lebanon-Springfield airport.

He had just dropped his wife off at Blue Grass Airport in Lexington where their daughter was having a baby.

According to the NTSB, Hutson contacted air traffic controllers at around 1:00 in the afternoon, to tell them he was losing oil pressure. The controller directed him to the closest airport in Washington County.

At 1:06 the NTSB reports Hutson told controllers that his windscreen was covered with oil and he couldn't see the airport which was just four miles away.

At 1:08, the airport lost communication with Hutson and the plane dropped off radar.

A witness reports seeing smoke coming from underneath the plane.

The plane touched down just off the runway and slid for about 200 feet before stopping.

The NTSB reports a sealing component in the oil filter adapter was dry rotted and had been leaking oil. Investigators say the last time it was checked was in August of last year.
