"Most Wanted' Sex-Abuse Suspect Arrested

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY -- (AP) A man shown on Ameria's Most Wanted for multiple sexual abuse charges and who police say posed as a marine and police officer has been captured.

The FBI has arrested 42-year-old David Peter Wheatley on warrants for two counts of sodomy, one count of attempted rape and escape.

Elizabethtown police spokesman Virgil Willoughby said the FBI received a tip that Wheatley was staying at a motel in Elizabethtown on Thursday.

Elizabethtown police arrested him without incident at about 8:15 p.m.

In July 2002, he was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon. He escaped from the Jefferson County Corrections Department in December 2003 and had been at large since.

He was charged in 2006 with raping a female relative on various occasions from 1999 — when the girl was 7 years old — to 2002.

He was featured on America's Most Wanted in April.
