A Paris police officer was rushed to the hospital Saturday night when a driver attempting to flee from a traffic stop hit him with his car.

Police say Detective Shawn Moore pulled up behind a car drived by Bush Warfield. Warfield had stopped in the middle of Horton Drive to talk to another motorist. Detective Moore waited for Warfield to proceed down the street but when he didn't, he put on his flashers and approached the vehicle. Moore thought he saw a weapon in the car so he reportedly grabbed Warfield and demanded that he put his car in the "park" position. Warfield refused and sped away injuring Moore in the leg.

Police caught up with Warfield a few blocks away and arrested him. A passenger in Warfield's car fled on foot. Police have spoken to that passenger but have yet to press any charges against him. Meantime, Warfield has been booked into the Bourbon County Detention Center and faces charges of improper parking, fleeing and evading, endangerment and assaulting a police officer. Three of those charges are felonies carrying prison terms of 25 to 30 years. Warfield is set to be arraigned in Bourbon County court on Wednesday.

Detective Moore was treated and released. Police say it will be several days before doctors know the full extent of his injuries.
