EVARTS, KY -- A 24-year-old Harlan County man died early Saturday after driving over an embankment, reports the Lexington Herald-Leader in its Sunday edition.

Kentucky State Police said Jason Juarez of Closplint died about 4 a.m. on Ky. 38, about 15 miles east of Evarts.

Juarez was westbound in a 2006 Nissan when a tire dropped off the road and onto the shoulder. Juarez apparently overcorrected and lost control of the Nissan, which crossed the road and went over an embankment, reports the Herald-Leader.

The Nissan struck a tree after traveling 159 feet, police said. Juarez, the only occupant of the vehicle, was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene by Harlan County Coroner Phillip Bianchi.

No autopsy is planned, Bianchi said. Evarts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, reports the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Hey janice maybe if the wonderful people of western kentucky could come down here and teach us hillbillies to use seatbelts it would help. Remember your from KY as well so don't shoot down your own kind, you should be saying a prayer for this kid's family. Or do they not teach you how to do that in Frankfort?

A man is dead. I don't see how that makes him fair game to be called stupid. How do we know he was in the habit of not wearing a seatbelt? Who knows, maybe that was 1 time he forgot to put it on. All I do know, is that calling "these people" stupid or ignorant, makes you sound even worse. "These people"?! Those people are no different than you or anyone else, no better and no worse. These people, they're OUR people. Fellow Kentuckians who get a bad enough rep without our own folk adding to it. Yes, seatbelt saves lives, we all know that. But does this man's family deserve to have not only their loved one bashed but their entire community? No, they do not. They're having a hard enough time without true ignorance rearing it's ugly head. When pointing the finger of blame, remember this, ya still have 3 more fingers pointing back at yourself. My sympathy goes to this man's family. May they take comfort in knowing he's with God now.
