LOUISVILLE, KY -- A motorcyclist struck a pickup and was killed about 6 p.m. Saturday on Shelbyville Road near Valhalla Golf Club, reports the Lousville Courier-Journal in its Sunday edition.

David Mears, 39, of the 100 block of Blue Fields Road, died at the scene of multiple blunt-force trauma, said Larry Carroll, a Jefferson County deputy coroner.

Mears, who was riding a cruiser-style motorcycle westbound, crossed into the eastbound lanes and hit the pickup head-on, said Officer Phil Russell, a Louisville Metro Police spokesman.

Witnesses said Mears was speeding and having a hard time negotiating a turn in the road, Russell said.

The driver of the pickup was taken to University Hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, Russell said.
