Copper Thieves Hit Church, Cause Thousands In Damage

Four men were arrested Wednesday morning after Georgetown Police caught them trying to steal copper from the Harmony Christian Church.

Police say the alleged thieves hit six AC units on the roof of the church causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage.

A church member working late, actually heard people on the roof and called police.

On arrival police found four men, two on the ground and two on the roof. Police say three of them gave up right away, but police say a fourth man tried to run for it. He jumped on to an awing below and then to the ground before he was arrested.

William Lancaster, 22, Derrick Whitlock, 27, Festus Bruner, 19, Travis Bruner, 22, were arrested and are lodged in the Scott County Jail.

There charges range from, 3rd degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking, criminal mischief and resisting arrest.

The church estimates the damage will top $50,000.
