Lexington Bank Robbery Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

A man police say held up a Lexington bank entered a not guilty plea at an arraignment on Tuesday afternoon.

Police say 19-year-old Jerry Sweeting robbed the Fifth Third Bank on Bryan Station Road just after 12:30 Monday afternoon. Police say the robber implied he had a weapon.

There were several sightings of the suspect in the neighborhood near the bank.

Police say at one point, Sweeting ran into a home where he took off his outer pants and shoes, leaving them in the kitchen.

After he ran from that house, police say they got several other calls from people in the neighborhood.

Police finally arrested Sweeting on Gleneagles Drive. The arrest came about 45 minutes after the holdup at the Fifth Third Bank.

Sweeting is charged with robbery and two counts of burglary.

He'll return to court on July 22nd for a preliminary hearing. In the meantime, he's being held in the Fayette County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond.
