It's official. Lexington state Senator Ernesto Scorsone is going to run for a Fayette County circuit judgeship.
Scorsone, who's a Democrat, spent 12 years in the state house and is completing 12 years in the senate.
Now, the scramble is on for who will replace him in the legislature.
Democratic state Representative Kathy Stein is making it clear she'd like to move up and indicates she has the backing of party leaders.
27 NEWSFIRST has learned that Republican John Hampton is being strongly encouraged to consider the race.
Hampton ran a strong challenge to longtime state Representative Ruth Ann Palumbo in 2004.
