Friends and family gathered Friday night to say goodbye to a soldier, killed while serving overseas.
The body of 22-year-old Corporal William McMillan III arrived in Lexington Thursday morning, a tough homecoming for family members.
The young soldier was killed in Iraq last week when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device.
Patriot Guard riders stood by the plane as Corporal McMillan's casket was removed from a plane a Blue Grass Airport, followed by bagpipes being played and a prayer said for the soldier.
Patriot Guard riders then accompanied the fallen soldier to Kerr Brothers Funeral Home off of Harrodsburg Road.
The funeral for Corporal McMillan will be held at Southland Christian Church at 10:00 Saturday morning, with his burial to follow at Camp Nelson.
