HENDERSON, KY -- (AP) -- Christopher Luttrell pleaded guilty but mentally ill Friday to aggravated murder and other charges in the 2006 death of social service worker Boni Frederick.
The plea means Luttrell, 24, of Henderson, would face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment without parole, avoiding the death penalty.
Frederick, 67, of Morganfield, was fatally beaten and stabbed in Henderson when she took an infant for a home visit with the infant's mother, Renee Terrell. Prosecutors say Terrell and Luttrell stole Frederick's jewelry, kidnapped the baby and stole the woman's car.
Luttrell also pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery, kidnapping, theft and three counts of being a second-degree persistent felony offender. His sentencing date is Aug. 25. Terrell's trial is set for Sept. 3.
