LEXINGTON, KY -- An errant and now deceased squirrel knocked out electricity to about 1665 customers in the northwest area of Lexington for a short period early today.
Several calls came in to 27 NewsFirst starting about 8 a.m., especially from the Cardinal Valley area. Residents were concerned about facing a forecasted hot day without air conditioning, but power was restored within two hours.
A Kentucky Utilities spokesman said the squirrel came in contact with the power lines at a substation on Trafton near the Pepsi plant.
K.U. Spokesman Cliff Feltham told 27 NewsFirst the squirrel's contact knocked out two circuits at 7:36 a.m.
Fletham says power was restored by 9:20 a.m.
