A major winter storm is on the way to the bluegrass state. Local high water issues are possible early Wednesday and that will be followed up by heavy snow and sleet. Significant accumulations are likely Wednesday night and Thursday.
CHICAGO (AP) - Are cholesterol-lowering statin drugs leading to gluttony?
That's the question posed by researchers in a new study. They say 10 years of national health data suggest that statin users have steadily increased their fat intake and calories.
If that's true, the researchers say many patients might be abandoning heart-healthy lifestyles and assuming that drugs alone will do the trick.
Statins may keep cholesterol low even if people eat less healthy food and slack off on exercise. But those bad habits can contribute to obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and other problems that are bad for the heart.
The study was published online Thursday in JAMA Internal Medicine.
