LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A status hearing is scheduled for Monday in Louisville in the case of a man accused of killing a 4-year-old boy whose body was found in a trash dump.
Cecil Eugene New is charged with kidnapping and killing Cesar "Ivan" Aguilar-Cano, who disappeared near Churchill Downs last year. The boy was found in the back of a garbage truck eight days later. Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty if New is convicted.
New has been on the Kentucky sex offender registry since March 2000.
