A fire on the interstate in Lexington caused a traffic backup for several hours on Thursday afternoon.

It happened just south of the Paris Pike exit on I-75.

We're told the tires on a tanker truck caught fire. The driver pulled off the road and moved his truck away from the tanker, which was carrying a non-hazardous chemical.

Firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire.

Traffic heading southbound was down to one lane while crews worked to clear the scene.
