A new report from AAA says since gas prices hit a record high in mid- July, the price has been continuing to drop and it looks like the trend could continue.
The national average is $3.87 a gallon, down 7 cents a gallon from one week ago and about a quarter's worth below the record high price of $4.17 set on July 17th.
AAA credits this downward trend to an overall change in behavior, saying when gas hit $3.00 a gallon, it noticed consumers cutting back on gas use by driving less or smarter and switching to fuel efficient vehicles.
They also say that once the dollar gains strength the prices will drop even more significantly.
The are also confident that even if prices are low, bad habits won't return.
