Jail Guard Injured In Attack

A Jessamine County deputy jailer is recovering after an inmate attacked him early Thursday morning.

The attack happened at the Jessamine County Detention Center on E. Maple St.

It's unclear what started the attack, but jail employees called for emergency workers saying the guard was hurt after an inmate went out of control.

We're told the inmate involved bit the tip of the deputy's finger. That deputy went to the hospital so that tests could be run.

Another deputy was apparently punched during the scuffle.

Investigators aren't yet identifying the inmate, but say he's been in the jail a few weeks.

Officials say the jail will conduct an investigation into what happened. The inmate probably will be charged with assault on a correctional officer.
