Bear spotted at racetrack in Pulaski County

BURNSIDE, Ky. (WKYT) - A Pulaski County racetrack opens for the season Saturday, but it had an early spectator Tuesday.

The owner of Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside says his daughter looked out their front door, only to see a large black bear hanging over the fence near the track.

Brandon Hardgrove thinks the bear was about six feet tall, since that's how tall the fence is.

He also says the bear even came towards them, before turning around, and climbing over the fence.

"At first glance, with it being ten feet away from my daughter, I was wanting to get to safety. Get her in the house. But then it was pretty amazing to know that you're that close to something, a wild animal of that sort. Pretty amazing," Hardgrove said.

Hardgrove says some people about a mile south of the track also saw the bear on the other side of U.S. 27.
