Emergency crews are on the scene in Lexington after a person was hit by a train.

It happened just after 11:00 at the railroad tracks on Old Paris Road near Paris Pike.

The train's engineer told firefighters that he saw something on the tracks. He thought it was an animal but still blew the horn several times.

By the time he realized it was a man lying on the tracks, it was too late to stop.

Firefighters say the victim is a man around 55 year old with long gray hair.

Police have been interviewing witnesses and people who possibly knew the man to see if he was killed by the train or before the train hit him.
