General showers will be the main action over the next few hours. A few could remain on the strong to severe side in eastern parts of Kentucky.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Investigators have now released the name of a motorcyclist killed in a crash on Winchester Road in Lexington.
The Fayette County Coroner says the victims is David Wayne Sumner, 46, of Lexington.
The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Winchester Road and Haley Pike.
Crews worked for several hours overnight to reconstruct the deadly accident.
Police describe the deadly accident as gruesome. It took several hours before authorities would even let WKYT's news crew get near the scene.
Police say a motorcycle was traveling toward Lexington on Winchester Road. A car was going the opposite way when it turned left onto Haley Road, right in front of that motorcycle.
The speed limit on this road is 55 miles per hour. The motorcycle driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are still investigating whether speed or the fact that this road is dimly lit had anything to do with the crash.
"The officers in the traffic unit are continuing to look into it," says Sherelle Roberts, Lexington Police Public Information Officer. "As we do with any situation when there's a fatality, we go back, we do reconstruction, we look at the road conditions and we try to get a better picture of it. But at this point, there have not been any charges, no arrests."
Winchester Road reopened just before 2:00 Thursday morning. The accident is still under investigation.
Police say the driver of the car only suffered minor injuries.
