A dozen Richmond families are working to find new places to live after a fire raced through their apartment complex early Saturday morning.

The fire broke out at about 2:30 a.m. at an apartment complex on Ballard Drive. At least one apartment was destroyed and several others were heavily damaged.

No one was injured in the fire but one resident lost two snakes and a pitbull puppy.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
