LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Police in Louisville have charged a man with murder, nearly a year after his wife fatally shot herself.
The Courier-Journal reported on Monday that authorities charged
James Simpson in the Sept. 10 death of 35-year-old Katherine Simpson.
The state and the defense don't dispute that the victim shot herself during a drunken argument the couple was having in the garage of their home.
However, prosecutors contend charging James Simpson is appropriate since he handed his wife a loaded gun. State statute allows a murder charge if a suspect acts recklessly and indifferently to human life.
James Simpson's attorney says no crime was committed.
