Rounds of showers and storms continue to develop. Some of these could be strong and put down very heavy rainfall. Watch for local high water issues.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Transylvania University and the Lexington Forum will co-host a formal public debate between incumbent Lexington Mayor Jim Gray and former Lexington Police Chief Anthany Beatty.
Beatty is challenging Gray’s bid for a second term as elected leader of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government. They will square off on the stage of Transylvania’s Carrick Theater at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
“Transylvania, with its liberal arts tradition and mission of encouraging civic engagement, offers an appropriate urban setting for discussion of the issues and aspirations of a growing, progressive city,” Transylvania President Seamus Carey said. “We look forward to this opportunity to provide a live, public debate experience to the Transylvania community, as well as the public.”
The event is co-hosted by the Lexington Forum, a civic organization formed in 1983 to serve as a platform for open discussion of issues and trends of local interest.
“The Forum is pleased to co-host this important voter education event on the Transylvania campus,” said board president, Molly Sutherland. “We view public debate as essential in helping voters determine whose policy positions and views best represent their own interests.”
