Escapee Caught In Lexington

After almost a month on the run a man police say escaped from custody, then went on a bank robbery spree, is back in jail Monday night.

The arrest came after investigators say Jeffrey Pratt held up the Farmer's National Bank in Cynthiana just after 11:00 Monday morning.

Police have been looking for Pratt since July 21st when police say he escaped from the Robertson County Courthouse while being taken to an arraignment.

Investigators think he's robbed a couple of banks since that escape, but police say his luck ran out Monday afternoon when he was found trying to buy a car at "Everybody's Auto Sales".

The owner of that car lot, Tom Wood, says Pratt tried to buy a car with a large amount of money. Police quickly found Pratt at the car lot before arresting him.

Pratt was staying at the New Circle Road Inn along with his girlfriend, Christina Welte, who was also arrested and taken in for questioning.

Pratt is already suspected in a Fleming County bank robbery earlier this month.

Police say Pratt is being held at the Fayette County Detention Center for at least one night. He could be moved because he is facing pending charges in other counties.

Along with robbery charges, Pratt is also being charged with resisting arrest and escaping police. Police say he also had drugs when he was caught.

He will be arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Fayette District Court.
