LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A jury has returned a $63.4 million verdict against the admitted killer of a University of Kentucky football player.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports it took the jury less than an hour to reach a civil verdict against Shane Ragland for the shooting death of Trent DiGiuro in 1994. The judgment is likely to be primarily symbolic because Ragland has few assets to his name.
Ragland was convicted of murder, but the case was thrown out by
the Kentucky Supreme Court. He later pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to time served plus three days of home incarceration.
Ragland and his attorneys were not present at the trial.
