A two-year-old boy who was hospitalized after a beating has died from his injuries in Louisville.

Police say the boy's aunt, Nereida Allen, and her live-in boyfriend, Joshua Peacher, assaulted him. Allen had temporary custody of the toddler.

The child was placed on life support at Kosair Children's Hospital, but died late Thursday afternoon.

Allen's assault charge has now been upgraded to murder. She's also accused of criminal abuse, marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. Peacher is charged with assault, criminal abuse, marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police say Allen admitted to disciplining the boy when he threw fits. The coroner says the toddler had large amounts of bruising and showed no signs of brain activity by the time he arrived at the hospital.

Alright, here we go again. Another child beaten and dead, what's new? People become so used to people hurting children people don't seem to do anything about it anymore!!!! If more people would take a stand and be the voice for these kids they might have a chance. Social services? HA HA. They are to worried about how quality not quanity. If they are over loaded, hire more people. If sports and whatever else is more imporant to people in Ky than children then I am living in the wrong state!!! Come on people! These 2 will go to prison be "reborn", get an education, build muscle, watch cable, and live the life that we pay for but we can't afford. They need to bring back the chain gangs. I pray for this child's soul and any other children going through this.

Billy i believe man wrote the bible and not god. The childs "fits" may have been something entirely different. If you think you have to beat a 2yo child, to correct a temper tantrum than you have no understanding of parenting. All a beating does is to teach a child to deal with problems through violence. Evidently Social Services was involved if this woman got temporary custody. How did this kid slip through the cracks?

Well the way the law is now she will be free in a day or so. How could you hurt a kid get real she needs to just be shot.

I don't have children and absolutely adore all my nieces and nephews. Although I love them dearly, they all know the limits with me. You don't have to spank most children to make a point...just teach! teach! teach! and explain why they must do what you ask...As for spanking a 2 year old...People, get real..that is ridiculous...If he was crying, pick him up and hold him and talk to him..that would probably stop the crying. Hitting him only made him cry more!!! That is stupid stupid stupid as well as criminal!! They need to be beaten as severely as this blessed little child. They are not even human...so they have no human rights!!

any one that would beat a kid like this should be shot to death..not in jail jail is to good for them.sick jerks out there..

Posted by: Mammy Location: London on Aug 31, 2008 at 04:05 PM
Social Services had to be involved, didn't they? So why wasn't this child checked on? Why weren't the Aunt and boyfriend drug tested before leaving that child there. Parents need to be responsible but sometimes they're not. That's what our social workers are for. To step in when they get reports of abuse and neglect. It's the law that we report abuse and neglect when we see it. Yet time and again, social workers turn a blind eye when the case seems dangerous and yet will go get involved in an absolutely rediculous but 'safer' case. We need a complete re-haul in our Social Services agencies.

To a mom in central Ky. Are you reading all of the Bible? If spanking a child disturbes you; then read Proverbs 22:15. After doing so, then if you still have a problem about this, take it up with GOD. God wrote these words, not me.

I have a great idea, act like it didnt happen, turn them loose and give them a pardon. We can call it the Barry/Stevie Syndrome

Posted by: Bonnie Location: Hazard on Aug 30, 2008 at 03:31 PM
I do hope the court system makes sure that justice is done for the death of this poor child. Sentencing should be the maximum, not the minimum.

To Billy, your definition of spanking is somewhat disturbing. And if everyone believed spanking was the answer, there would be more abuse than there currently is, as some people do not have the maturity/intelligence to stop after just a simple swat on the tail. There are ways to discipline without HITTING a child, and spanking is another form of hitting, sorry. My Bible tells me to be the best mother I can to my daughter, and we are comfortable using other means to discipline her.

I've already heard people blaming the state for this child's death...but guess what? There comes a point where a PARENT has to take responsibility for their children. If they don't want to care for them (or can't care for them), then by heck give them up and let a loving family adopt them. This "parent" (I use that term loosely) had to give the child to her sister (or foster care) so she could get her home fit to live in?!? Give me a break, this child was TWO for God's sake, so basically the first 2 years of its life it lived in filth or else the mom wouldn't have had to do this, so what kind of life did this baby live anyways? No wonder he cried a lot, he was probably ill from living in filth. Parents have to take some responsibility, quit getting pregnant if you don't want children or can't take care of them (there are condoms and birth control available for free in this nation). But for goodness sake don't bring another child into this world that won't have a quality life!!!!!

Well ya know, you jury people and judges out there don't seem to care to much about something like this after a month or so goes by do ya, this sort of a crime just keeps on happening doesn't it,its just like the school shooting thing,no one ever gets punished the way they should

when in God;s name is this going to stop? We have so many drug infested sicko's out here, The laws need to be changed, automatic death for the killing of our children, Replace Judges, stop supporting these sick people be putting them in Jail for years on top of years,While they are being fed, housed,& doctored , we have to live with this pain,People we have to stop this,Do not give them life in jail for us to support,30 days like Saddam Husein,Thank God! I have my children but my heart cries for our lil ones, & what they have to endure from people who are suppose to love & protect them, I am close to 60 now,It seems to get worse with each year, God, It just makes me sick,My prayers are with this child & family.

How many times is the justice system going to let this happen? As I always say, give them the same punishment that they gave their innocent victims. After all, they did say they were "discipling" the child, right? Maybe they should be "disciplined" the same way! I would say that they have theirs coming to them when they get put in the slammer. I hear inmates don't tolerate child beaters!

Posted by: allison Location: kentucky on Aug 29, 2008 at 02:57 PM
I think that they should be beat until they are considered brain dead. I agree with Lindsey because I have a 2 year old but I would never beat him. They don't need to sit in a jail just give them a beating like what the little boy got. It makes me sick to think that a judge would give a scumbag custody in the first place. Like one person said he needs to be taken off the bench for that. I also agree with what Mom in KY said give them the death penalty. I hope they get what they deserve and nothing less. I am so upset about the little boy but i know that he is where he won't get hurt anymore.

Posted by: Julie Location: Winchester on Aug 29, 2008 at 02:01 PM
Death Penalty for the cowardly trash. I pray they get what they deserve. Cowards!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 29, 2008 at 01:51 PM
what in the he@# is worng wih people!!!! they need to beaten and left to die!!!! Maybe they hook up with Casey Anthony in jail and maybe some one will show them who is boss!!!! these type of people make me sick!!!!

Posted by: This one is easy... on Aug 29, 2008 at 01:27 PM
DEATH PENALTY FOR BOTH OF THEM. ANYTHING SHORT OF THAT IS NOT JUSTICE. YES, MY CAPS LOCK IS ON FOR DRAMATIC EMPHASIS!

Posted by: SS Minnow Location: Richmond on Aug 29, 2008 at 11:37 AM
It seems to me that these two dullards did not understand the concept of discipline. Maybe they were too jacked on crack/methadone/meth--take your pick! I am sure that the only reason they even wanted the child was for the check they would receive to care for him. Free money to purchase said drugs. What a sad life for this poor child. Only two years old, in temporary custody--God only knows why--and these people are supposed to be better than his parents? Punishment should fit the crime. When we finally realize this concept and implement it, crime WILL decrease!! Quit locking them in the jailhouses for a few days and then letting them off because of overcrowding or the court system is overloaded! Beat the bloody h*** out of them! Let them heal. Then beat the bloody h*** out of them again! Keep doing so until the child recovers. If the child does not recover, beat the bloody h*** out of them again and then give them a swift trial and sentence for murder.

This is absolutely heartbreaking. My first thought was that they probably took the baby to care for so they could get a check for keeping him. If the baby lives, having no brain activity, it is my opinion they should get the death penalty, because they have just the same as killed him. To think what that baby went thru at the hands of these animals makes me sick. In my opinion, this was probably not the first time the baby was mistreated either. When a child dies at the hands of an adult, I think it should be an automatic death penalty and FAST, not paying for them to sit on the row for 20 years. They should not be allowed to plead and get life in prison-that is too good for them.

Posted by: mel Location: lex on Aug 29, 2008 at 11:16 AM
Bubba...I doubt they had any brain activity to begin with.

Posted by: Note to Debbie from Prestonburg on Aug 29, 2008 at 09:45 AM
What the heck are you talking about? This is a two year old, not an athlete. You must be on the wrong forum.

Posted by: sierra Location: lexington on Aug 29, 2008 at 09:12 AM
The state of Kentucky has got to start doing a better job of protecting its children. How did people with such violent tempers end up with custody of a two year old? Charging these 2 with murder is not enough! They should be subjected to the same beating they inflicted upon an innocent child.

Posted by: sue Location: prestonsburg on Aug 29, 2008 at 08:39 AM
if people dont want children, then why dont they just give them up to people who would care and love them??? but their thinking is... WHAT WOULD PEOPLE THINK OF US IF WE GIVE UP OUR BLOOD? SO they beat them near death... instead! If we all knew what children hast to endure behind closed doors, we none would be able to sleep. We live in scarey times when a animal will care for its young, better than some humans.

WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE TODAY? HOW CAN SOMEONE SIT AND BEAT A INNOCENT CHILD LIKE THAT. THAT POOR CHILD WHAT IT WAS GOIING THROUGH WHILE BEING BEATEN. THE CRIES AND SCREAMS THAT LITTLE FELLA WAS DOING WHILE THESE MONSTERS DID THIS TO HIM....WHY,WHY,WHY? I CANT PUT INTO WORDS WHAT I WOULD LIKE SEEN DONE TO THE SUSPECTS IN THIS HORRIBLE CRIME..COME ON PROSECUTORS AND JUDGE SET THEM ON FIRE FOR THAT LITTLE FELLA...MY PRAYERS ARE WITH THAT LITTLE GUY THROUGH HIS TOUGH TIMES OF HEALING...

Posted by: Bubba Johnson Location: Stanford on Aug 29, 2008 at 12:27 AM
After the trial for these heinous creatures, when they are found guilty, give them the same they gave to the two year old child. Beat them senseless to the point there is no brain activity in either of them. But then deny them medical care.

Posted by: Lindsey Location: frankfort on Aug 28, 2008 at 11:51 PM
i have a 2yr old and i know how they can get annoying but i would never ever consider beating her as an option!! thesepeople are sick! my heart and prayers go out to this poor baby boy! the judge that placed this boy in their care should be taken off the bench!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 28, 2008 at 11:11 PM
just kill them they are not worthy to live if they have to beat a 2 yr old bring them to me I will beat them like they did that little boy

Posted by: Debbie Location: Prestonsberg on Aug 28, 2008 at 11:09 PM
These coaches should be relieved of their duties until the investigation is concluded. If this child died because of heat exhaustion and dehydration, he's in big trouble and I would file a lawsuit for endagering the life of my son also.

Posted by: steve on Aug 28, 2008 at 10:36 PM
I would like to see if they could beat me for about an hour.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 28, 2008 at 10:33 PM
Doesn't sound like they are the ones who should have had temp custody. This is horrible. I pray this little boy pulls through and is able to live a normal life. These two people should be severely punished.

Posted by: Billy Location: Lancaster on Aug 28, 2008 at 09:23 PM
Why do we allow animals like these to live?I don't understand how a person could beat a child. I am a firm beliver in spanking kids. The Bible tells us, if we spare the rod we will spoil the child. It does not tell us to beat them with our fist, hammers, or any thing else we get our hands on. Why don't we take people like these out and beat them till they think they are going to die? If the courts would do this a time or two, then you would not hear of this again. These kind of people would would get the message very quick.

Posted by: mamaw Location: kentucky on Aug 28, 2008 at 09:12 PM
MAY GOD BLESS THIS LITTLE CHILD. IF HE LIVES MY PRAYERS ARE THAT HE WILL BE PLACED WITH SOMEONE WHO WILL LOVE HIM AND PROTECT HIM INSTEAD OF TRYING TO TORMENT HIM.

Posted by: Angela Location: Carlisle on Aug 28, 2008 at 09:09 PM
I feel that these two people should face intensive punishment. No child desires a beating. There are ways to discipline a child without beating the child. I feel that these individuals were angry to begin with and they took it out on the child. With no brain activity, this child will not have a life, he will be a vegetable. Whether God takes this child or not, these two horrible people should be punished, take from them what they took from the child. "LIFE"

Those two should be beaten erm, I mean, disciplined as severely as they did him!
