FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - The Pentagon has announced that a Kentucky soldier has been killed in Iraq.
A statement says Sgt. David K. Cooper of Williamsburg died
Wednesday in Baghdad from wounds suffered when his patrol came
under small arms fire.
The 25-year-old was stationed out of Fort Hood, Texas.
Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear has ordered that flags at state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on the day of Cooper's funeral.
Croley Funeral Home in Williamsburg was handling arrangements,
including a yet to be scheduled memorial service sometime next week. Jerry Croley, owner of the funeral home, said Cooper's body was being flown back from Iraq on Friday evening.

My heart go out to the family of this young man. My only child is a 17 year old eager to join the Marines and serve his county. My prayers are for you and all other sons,daughter,fathers and mothers who make such a painful sacrifice for this country.

My heart and prayers go out to Sgt Cooper's family and friends. I am in that Forward Support Company, and I am still devastated by what happened. We lost a great soldier.

I am sorry to hear every time that a soldier is killed. I wished that this stupid war would end. We have lost to many good men and women. May God be with this family. Thank you to all that have and are serving our country.

My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the Cooper family. He was a classmate, friend and fellow athlete with my sons at WHS. David spent many hours at my home. I most remember his infectious smile and his humorous personality, along with his athletic and musical talents. May God bless him with the grace of heaven and guide his family through this most difficult time. My deepest gratitude for his service to our country will be felt forever.

My name is SPC Croley I am in LSA Anaconda, Iraq and a Williamsburg native, I send my condolences to the family. In the Army every soldier is a family member, and I hate to lose any one in my family. I miss you my brother in war and thank you for leading the way! GODSPEED!!! HOOOAH!!!!!
