A high school shooter who killed three classmates and wounded five others is asking Kentucky's Supreme Court for a second chance at his case.

Michael Carneal, now 25, claims he was too mentally ill to plead guilty in 1998 to going into Heath High School in west Paducah and shooting eight students who were gathered for an informal prayer service.

He's serving a sentence of life without parole for at least 25 years for the Dec. 1, 1997 shooting that happened when he was 14.

My cousin was in the room at East Carter High School when a classmate came in with a gun and killed her teacher and a janitor back in the early 90's. Anyone who brings a gun into school isn't doing it for kicks. I don't think this person should recieve a new trial. He was found competent then. How can you look ten years back and decide if someone was competent. Our courts are so tied up with junk that there is no such thing as a speedy trial anymore. Don't give him a new trial - it is unfair to his victims. they didn't get a second chance to live!

missy jenkins wrote a book about what he did to her life that comes out next month and i hear she'll be at the hearing next week. i wonder what judges will think seeing her in a wheelchair.

Leave him in prison. Let him spend his time thinking about the ones that he killed that can never come back. That's the problem today people can say that they are crazy and get lesser time for the crime.

You know it can be said that anyone who blatantly kills for no rational reason is crazy. I mean killing is the ultimate taboo. One should only kill to protect their lives or the lives of others to include protecting your nation from it's enemies. I guess the type of killing I am refering to is Murder. An act of Murder is an insane act. But these murderers know it's wrong to murder yet they murder any how! I have no pitty on them. I hope this murderer never sees the light of day again. One who murders can always be said to be crazy but that does not mean their insane. Insane implies they did not know they were committing acts that were wrong. These murderers know they just don't care.

No way, No how, NO NEW TRIAL! He was mentally evaluated and ruled competent to make his plea agreement. Yet again another case of how LAWYERS have destroyed everything that was once good about our country. How can you ask for a new trial 10 years after you pleaded guilty? Only when lawyers mess up the system to the point where a criminal has more rights than the people he/she killed, raped, robbed, pillaged, or destroyed can this happen. In the America that actually believed in justice until about 1980, this would've never been tolerated. Now it's commonplace, and it's because lawyers have taken over everything in our society. I think it's time to vote out EVERY LAWYER from every council, legislature, or congress and put in REAL people who are in-touch with real problems.
