Police Chase Stolen Corvette Through Fayette County

After hours of searching Monday, Lexington Police say there are no signs of two people they say stole a Corvette convertible then led them on a long chase.

Investigators later found the sports car abandoned on Russell Cave Road near the Mattoxtown Community in Fayette County.

Police spent much of Monday afternoon searching the area on foot. Around 3 p.m., police decided to call of the search.

"I couldn't believe it, I was working in my garage and heard a car fly down my driveway," Helen Peppiatt told 27NEWSFIRST.

Peppiatt says the Corvette sped onto her property and then disappeared behind her barn.

"I didn't know what to think at first, so I called police and they showed up moments later," said Peppiatt.

Police conducted an immediate search of the area, but found no evidence of the two suspects. The only description they have is that it was a black male and white female. But the two have not been identified.

"We just happened to be outside when we saw two people running in a nearby field," said Paul Owens, who says he saw the two people police were looking for.

"The guy even waved at us, I guess trying to make us think nothing was wrong, then they jumped the fence and were gone," Owens said.

Police won't say exactly where the car was reported stolen from, just that it was somewhere in Lexington.
