Car Crash After High Speed Chase

A high speed chase with police came to a screeching halt on Wednesday morning.

State police say a trooper pulled a car over on I-75 in Laurel County because it was going too slow. Police say the driver was going 40 in a 70 mph speed zone.

Police say when the driver was asked to hand over his license, he took off.

Police chased him into Madison County. Speeds during the chase reached 110 mph.

Police say after about 30 minutes, they put out stop sticks on the road. The driver ran over them, lost control and ended up hitting the median.

27-year-old Justin Travis Vineyard, who is from Knoxville, was taken to the hospital, complaining of shortness of breath.

He'll face fleeing and evading, among other charges.

I-75 in Madison County was shut down for a time, but everything is now back to normal.
