A string of dog disappearances in two counties, now police say the pets may have been taken by a dog-napping ring.

Last week, residents from Garrard County were reporting a spike in dog thefts. Now its neigboring Lincoln County is also reporting a string of dog thefts.

Lincoln County's dog warden says smaller dogs are being targeted. He believes they are being sold.

I am a big proponent of microchipping. It would make it easier for everyone (ie: pet owners, law enforcement agencies, vets, etc.) to get pets back to their owners. AND- if you had a sign posted stating your pet is microchipped for identification purposes, perhaps the theives would mosey on down the road!

These people are messing with the wrong counties. Around here people's dogs are family. I'll wager first homeowner that catches them in the act and bam. No more dog thieves.

This is why you should never buy from someone you don't know. Go to a breeder, not online or something. The internet has made it way too easy to sell what isn't yours, and now animals are paying the price. Around Laurel Co., its getting pretty bad, too. Just like risking your life to steal copper: thieves will go where the money is. I think its funny, though, that they're stealing LITTLE dogs. Guess they don't have the nerve to go up against a Rottie!!

Anything that bounces when it barks should not be considered a dog!

Have the police look at Mt Sterling and Lucasville,Ohio flea markets/Swap meets when they open. There's always 100's of small dogs for sale!!! And, dogs ALWAYS start disappearing around this time of year, my own did 3 years ago!

Would help to know which small breeds in order for people to know which ones are being targeted so they CAN protect their pets.
