Hospital Relies On Emergency Power Sources

By  |

The emergency generators at Central Baptist Hospital kicked in just as they were designed to do when a downed tree behind the emergency room knocked out the hospital's traditional power source.

The tree fell onto lines at the corner of Hiltonia Park and McDonald Avenue at about 1:00 p.m. Sunday. Hospital officials say patient care was never compromised and that staff train for such incidents.

Emergency ambulances were diverted away from the hospital for about two hours as crews moved in to repair the broken lines and poles.

Power was restored to the hospital by 9:00 p.m.
