He's known in his small town as a reverend, good neighbor, and friend.
But federal authorities say behind the scenes, Wayne Reid and his wife Donna were making millions by selling marijuana. The couple used several businesses to disguise their operation.
Now the Reid's, once thought of as pillars in their community, are facing up to 30 years in prison. The couple were found guilty Wednesday night in a federal court house, for money laundering and harboring a fugitive.
Federal investigators say from January 2000 through November 2005 the Reid purchased a large acreage in Clay County, Ky, and began a development of the property, including the construction of homes, remodeling an existing home, and constructing a convenient store, to disguise a multi-million dollar marijuana trafficking operation.
Testimony also revealed that the Reids concealed the location of a federal fugitive, Larry Golden Jackson, Jr., who was their partner in crime.
The trial also resulted in the turnover of $1.5 million in property.
Wayne Reid is the Pastor of, Calvary Baptist Church in the Burning Springs Community. He is in the Laurel County jail, Donna Reid bonded out.
The two could face up to 30 years in prison when sentence January of next year.
