There's word of a tragic loss for former UK basketball coach Tubby Smith and his family.
Smith's nephew, 19-year-old William Smith was stabbed to death Sunday night during a fight.
Police say it happened near the teen's Massachusetts college.
The host of the party where the stabbing occurred says William Smith was protecting a friend when he was stabbed in the chest.
The 19-year-old had recently enrolled at Becker College in Worcester, Massachusetts where he was majoring in sports management.
There was a fight early Sunday morning at an off-campus complex that police say spilled into the street.
Smith was stabbed and later pronounced dead. A weapon was found at the scene, but no arrests have been made.
William Smith was Tubby's brother's son.
Friends and fellow students held a vigil for Smith on Monday night.
Becker College is offering grief counseling for students who knew Smith. The college says this is the first time one of its students has died in an act of violence.
