FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky's pro-gambling governor is looking to make sure all bets are off for more than 140 online gambling Web sites that operate in the state that's home to the world's biggest horse race.

Gov. Steve Beshear says his administration is asking a Franklin
County Circuit Court judge to give the state control of 141 gambling Web sites. Beshear says he's looking to restrict access to Web sites with names such as desperatehousewivesbingo.com or reeferpoker.com.

Kentucky Justice Secretary J. Michael Brown says the state has
already seized the domain names and is seeking forfeiture.

A hearing is scheduled for Thursday before Judge Thomas Wingate.

I think it's great to block internet gambling--if it's at all possible! As another person stated, stopping anything on the net is very difficult. When you think you've got something stopped, another one pops up somewhere else. So if it can be done, I'm all for it. Gambling may be addictive is one thing; but when it comes to children having access to it is quite another.

I really do not understand the big deal about casinos. I see our school children working in the bingo parlors trying to get money for team sports, schools and churches hosting poker/casino nights to raise money but grow adults can not make a decision to gamble? I guess in Lexington it is ok to gamble if you are getting money for a good cause, gambling on horse racing or lottery. How do you decide if one form of gambling is ok and another is not? Please can somebody tell me?

I am headed to Las Vegas next month for some serious gambling. Does this mean that soon the flights from Ky to Vegas and AC shall be banned because Ky does not get their cut of my gambling dollar?? Perhaps we need to close the bridges to Ind and Ill as they suck money out of Ky every day. Steve needs to remember one thing. He was not elected because he was Steve. He was elected because he was not Ernie.

the casinos should have been brought to ky and we would not be losing money to indiana for our schools and other things that may boost our revenue, not bringing them here is not going to stop anyone from gambling its only an hour drive. what is the difference in betting on the horses there is not one.

Lets see now,the federal government has laws against interstate gambling and overseas.By using these laws the Fed.has caused most credit card and some banks to not send to any "known" casino or gambling games.3 states have passed laws making it a state law too with really stiff penalty.North Carolina for example has 10 thousand $ fine for 1st offense, thanks to the Cherokee lobbyist.Other tribes have followed suit in other states to stop the competition.Ohio will pass their casino bill this next election,West Va.has some casinos,Ind.has some,I guess Tenn.will be next then KY...last as always.

Deborah, should that not be the choice of the person making the money? And not the government!!

Encouraged to read this and hope that gambling, whether online or in casinos continues to get the boot in Kentucky. It may be entertaining to some, but there are better things to spend our hard-earned money on....supporting our families and helping those in need. Gambling brings about pain to our families and creates hardships. There is a high price to pay for being irresponsible, and so much of the time it's the responsible who have to do the paying. LIVE SMART, KENTUCKY!!

This is being done because his gaming initiatives were shot down and those who helped him get elected (casino and gambling folks) aren't getting a cut of the action. It's so apparent, a blind person can see it.

Get the govt. out of our personal lives. How can they restrict what websites people in the state have access to? Big Brother here we come.

Do you guys in frankfort not have anything better to do. This is crazy what a free America we live in today. Why do you guys not feed the hungry or read to children. Educate the poor, crack down on drug users (big issue in kentucky) there is so much more that need to be done then worry about he gamblers.

doesn't anyone ever do their homework when reporting stories - reeferpoker.com isn't hosted or owned by anyone in kentucky - i have never heard of the site - did a simple 3 min of research and found out who owned it and where it is hosted and it isn't kentucky - the state has no jurisdiction of that particular web site - do a tracert on desperatehousewivesbingo.com and that sure isn't hosted in kentucky

Any hope that Stevie boy even remotely entertained about getting expanded gambling into the state of Kentucky is now dead on arrival.

what will this do, exactly? there are plenty of other places to gamble on the internet. who really cares, anyway? no one is really policing the web, as it is not realistic. so, why does our governor trying to do something that isn't realistic? oh, wait ... it's politics. give it up, and do something meaningful, like FUND EDUCATION!

Let me see, if Ky doesn't get its share of money from gambling it's bad, but if Ky gets a cut it's good. I know a woman that lost her business because of an addiction to bingo. I know a man and woman that lost their home because of their addiction to bingo, both parlor and internet bingo, and are now renting. I know a woman that nearly lost her marriage because of a nightly addiction to going to bingo. But things like this is alright as long as the State, fire depts, and churches make money from gambling and people like this. Right?
