The doors of a Lexington based clothing chain closed for the last time Monday afternoon after more than 100 years in business.
Dawhares' owners say the weak economy and competition from bigger chain stores contributed to the decision to close. The company announced it's was closing all of its 22 remaining stores
earlier this year.
The store announced it would initially close nine stores to try and save the company, but the financial benefit wasn't enough to keep the clothing retailer from going under.
The first Lexington store opened in 1961. Dawahares has long been known as a great place for cat fans to get their UK merchandise, and that started with a personal relationship.
