A man was hit by a car while walking his dog across a busy Lexington road. It happened at about 8:30pm Saturday night along Harrodsburg Road in front of the Turfland Mall.

Police say 47-year old Ricky Young of Florida was not in a cross walk when he was struck in the northbound lanes. He was rushed to the hospital with life threatening injuries. The dog died in the wreck.

The driver of the car was not hurt.

The northbound lanes of Harrodsburg Road were shut down from Springhurst to Lane Allen while police investigated the crash.

Clemmy (dog) was buried at the Red Mile. Her owner loved her dearly and she is devastated. Ricky is still touch and go but we pray for the best.

I hope the man recovers from his injury. and my sympathy goes to him if it was his dog/ Dogs are to some of us/ a best friend/ I am sorry the dog died -?? some drivers well go to fast but it was accident and hopefully it died quickly not left by road like many to suffer a long time.

awwww.... this is sad. I'm sad for the man, but he made the choice of not using the cross walk.....so I'm even more sad for the dog who had no choice.
