A grandfather sits in jail, accused of leaving his two young grandchildren alone for hours.

London police arrested Doyle Cook, Junior of Alaska, after an employee noticed Cook's three-year old granddaughter wandering alone outside by the pool at the Days Inn on Highway 80.

Then, housekeepers say they found his seven-year-old grandson alone in the room.

When Cook returned, he told police he was visiting friends in Mt. Vernon.

"There is just no excuse for leaving that small of children alone for any period of time," said Angela Schafer, the hotel employee who found the children.

"When he got back, he scolded the children for calling the police, but they didn't, I did," Schafer said.

Cook is charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor. The children are now in the custody of child protective services.

Absolutely no excuse!!!I also agree with Donna from Eastern Ky.. Are we really sure that these innocent little children are his grandchildren..He needs to be thoroughly investigated...These babies need a loving, safe home...PLEASE help these children stay together and find them a SAFE place to live..

I completely agree. I know a woman that lives in London (more like backwoods EB) that leaves her 2 year old and 5 year old in the care of her 7 year old when she "runs to town" for well over an hour I can assure you. Social services have been made aware of how they are treated (when she tried to accuse another loving couple of "mistreating" them) and the system never even bothered to look into her! It never ceases to amaze me...

Are we totally sure that these children are his grandchildren or some that he may have abducted from somewhere? I suggest that the children be given to a couple who are unable to have children so that they may be taken care of and given love that they so apparently need.

The sad thing about this situation is that you can garentee this man will get these children back. The system sucks.

THIS SOUNDS SUSPICIOUS. GRANDFATHER HAVE HIS GRANDKIDS IN KY WITHOUT NO ONE ELSE. JUST DON'T MAKE SENSE TO ME. AND THE FAMILY HE IS VISITING IS IN MT. VERNON. WHAT RIGHT MINDED PERSON WOULD LEAVE A 3 YEAR OLD AND 7 YEAR OLD IN A STRANGE TOWN BY THEM SELFVES TO GO OUT OF TOWN TO VISIT RELATIVES............THINK ABOUT IT.

Another case that leaves us asking why did the Grandfather have them in the first place -where was the people that brought them into this world?????

This grandfather needs to have someone get his attention and convince him he did a very wrong thing. Things aren't like they were when he grew up and you didn't have to worry much about the kids being alone and the doors being unlocked. The granddaughter could have drowned in the pool or been abducted. He should have never had them in the first place.

Why was the children with grandpa in the first place? Where are their parents? To say the least, grandpa is not fit to keep them, but then again what was so important to the parents that they couldn't take the children with them? I have a 7 and 5 yr old and I refuse to leave them with anyone because you cannot trust people these days, not even family members!
