The jailer thought good behavior meant an inmate could be trusted as a trustee; that is until he vanished Thursday morning.
Police in Montgomery County say Robin Maple escaped from the Mt. Sterling Jail just after 11:00 a.m.
Maple was jailed in Montgomery County awaiting trial for a stand-off and the alleged kidnapping of his 14-month-old son back in July.
The toddler ended up in the hospital after his father crashed his car.
Maple was in jail on several charges including kidnapping, assault, and wanton endangerment.
Once he's caught, escape will likely be added to that list.
We spoke with Maple's ex-girlfriend, Melissa Patrick, Thursday evening who says she and their son, Wyatt, are now in hiding until he is either caught or turns himself in.
She says she fears he will try to kidnap Wyatt again, and thinks the reason he escaped from jail is to find them, saying that she hasn't taken his phone calls from the jail in weeks.
She says she just hopes he will turn himself in to police as soon as possible.
