Puppy Abuse Suspect Ordered Evaluation

A Pulaski County judge has ordered a man, charged in a bizarre case of animal cruelty, to have a psychiatric evaluation.

Science Hill police arrested Michael Salyers for allegedly cutting off his puppy's ears and tail.

Salyers has been charged with animal cruelty. Police say he used scissors to mutilate the dog. In a jailhouse interview he told us he just wanted to change the way his dog looked.

The judge will have to decide what happens next with the puppy. The veterinarian caring for the dog says there's been a huge outpouring from the community with people wanting to know how the dog is doing and how they can help.

The vet says the dog is healing well at this time.
