A major winter storm is on the way to the bluegrass state. Local high water issues are possible early Wednesday and that will be followed up by heavy snow and sleet. Significant accumulations are likely Wednesday night and Thursday.
It took several hours, but firefighters finally got control of a large mulch fire.
The fire started early Friday morning in Powell County, just off Highway 213. The mulch is stored in an old rock quarry.
The flames were so intense that people in Montgomery County could see it.
Firefighters pulled water from a nearby pond to put out the fire.
At this point, investigators think the fire started from the mulch heating itself.
