Jail Escapee Turns Himself In

PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) - A state prisoner who escaped from a western
Kentucky jail for a few hours has returned, asking to be let back in.

Chad Toy told The Paducah Sun that he went back to the McCracken
County Regional Jail on Monday after talking to his sister, who told him that his family feared for his safety.

Jailer Bill Adams said he doubts Toy's account and thinks the 21-year-old inmate was on the riverbank after running off during a cleanup detail.

He returned still wearing his orange jump suit, which was wet and covered with grime.

Toy was serving a four-year sentence for theft. He now faces an escape charge.

Adams said it is the first time in his 14 years as a deputy and jailer that he's had an escaped convict willingly return.
