WKU Looking At 4 Percent Cut

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Facing a 4 percent state budget cut to
universities, Western Kentucky University officials are seeking ways to trim the school's finances.

University President Gary Ransdell has appointed a Presidential Task Force to find more places to cut into the university's budget already made tight by last spring's 6 percent state budget cuts.

The 4 percent cut would be a loss of about $3.2 million in state revenue for the university. The proposals are due to the Council on Postsecondary Education by Wednesday.

Ransdell told The Bowling Green Daily News that slowing the growth of the school, not downsizing, is the likely method to deal with the cuts.

By stabilizing enrollment, Ransdell said the university will keep growth from deteriorating quality.
